Why we built PRYVY
My WHY to built PRYVY
Since I started my web design studio 12 years ago, the main focus has clearly been set on making our clients happy. More than 300 websites later, my team and I didn’t feel content anymore with telling our clients to use free software from giant corporations with hidden agendas when it comes to tracking the success of the websites we’ve carefully built for them.
Tracking website usage statistics and invading the personal space of unknowing visitors shouldn’t be the same thing. So we started building our own solution.
In the process it became obvious to us that it’s possible to measure the carbon emissions of website usage. Combining this feature with our new usage statistics tool was the next logical step for us, which is why we incorporated the solution and significantly improved the usefulness of the software this way.
My WHY to built PRYVY
Only a few days after my son Luc was born, I took this image on an cold day. I momentarily placed him under my coat to take the photo before quickly returning him to his warm and cozy sheep fur blanket. I can still recall how my breath created fog as I exhaled in the freezing air.
It was September 1997 in Central Europe. And these temperatures have been quite normal for this time of the year.
25 years and 3 months later on December 22nd, 2022, we had a rainy day and 12° Celsius in Berlin, Germany.
That day we founded PRYVY to fight against climate change. As a mother, I wanted to do something to give my son the chance to live in a world where he could one day decide to become a father himself without worrying about the terrible consequences of climate change.
My WHY to built PRYVY
As someone who has worked in digital business development, revenue stream optimization, marketing and sales for over 20 years, I am a heavy user of marketing technology.
In a time when rapid growth in technology intelligence and our perception of how we give away our private data are changing, it is necessary to adopt this new online landscape.
Being a graduated engineer, I have always been looking for ways to improve things and make them work better (and easier). When I saw the potential that this company had to change the way we use data and analytics, I knew it was something I wanted to be involved in.
I believe there is a need for meaningful analytics technology that is available to all people who want to be fair to their users and environment but still need to optimize their digital presence and business models for maximum success.
My WHY to built PRYVY
It’s hard to imagine our lives without the Internet, but with its convenience comes a significant carbon footprint.
Many people are unaware of the extent of carbon emissions from their online activities and therefore do not take action to reduce their impact. By creating a tool that calculates carbon emissions and offers ways to offset them, we hope to raise awareness and encourage action for a more sustainable future.
I believe that every step, no matter how small, towards carbon neutrality can have a positive impact on our environment, and in doing so, we can play a small part in what I believe is the most important task facing humanity today.
